Martin Luther King Day

This Martin Luther King Day (1-17-11) will mark the 8th annual Sea Island Habitat for Humanity Martin Luther King Day Build in West Ashley, SC. Volunteers will work to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on this day by framing the first two homes at Joeva Cove.

Since 2003, Sea Island Habitat for Humanity has continued to build on Dr. King’s dream by encouraging others to give back to their community in a meaningful way—by building a home for a hard-working, deserving family or by helping with other important community projects such as the 2010 Hollywood Community Center.

“To see the community come together for such a great cause is so rewarding,” says Anne Randall, Volunteer Coordinator for SIHH. “We are so excited to be a part of this great initiative at our new development in West Ashley, and are looking forward to having volunteers serve on this very special day.”

In its entirety, this project will change the lives of 10 families. This provision of access to affordable housing has been an excellent example of partnership between Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, the local government, area churches, local business, and community volunteers. We believe it is a fitting tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. to start construction on this project on the day that honors his contributions and dreams.

Dedicated staff, volunteers, and community members from SIHH will work together to begin building two homes on the 17th (from 8am-4pm) and will continue working on the homes until the project is completed in the beginning of September. For more details or to volunteer or donate to the project, please contact Rhea Miller at communityvista@seaislandhabitat.org 843-768-0998.
