Thankful for Habitat allowing God to work...

I am so thankful for Sea Island Habitat's policy on mission trips! Early last spring, I began to feel the desire to go on a mission trip with my church but knew I would not have enough vacation days stored up to go. After prayer and investigating into my affiliate's policy, I found that SIHH is very supportive of mission trips! Here, for a certified mission trip, the days you need to take only count as 1/2 vacation time. So of the 6 days I needed to be out of the office, only 3 were deducted from my vaction day bank! Thank you!

I went to Costa Rica with my church in a team of 15 people. We did both outreaches to local youth at the "home-base" camp we stayed at as well as to the very isolated Cabecar Indians in the mountains through medical clinics and construction on a church building for them. It was a dangerous journey just to get to them, but Dios es bueno! (God is good; it was the recurring theme of our week.) God even allowed for us to be there in time to save the life of a baby. It had both chicken pox and pneumonia, after immediate medical care, we all pooled our money to pay for a taxi ride to the closest hospital...2.5 hours away! We heard an update the next day that the baby was admitted and was to be hospitalized for 2 weeks for recovery.

The team picture is at a scenic overlook with our host missionaries, Nathan & Amber Babcock. The other one is of me surrounded by a bunch of kids because I helped plan a Christian themed scavenger hunt...they LOVED it! I'm wearing a soccer jersy because I, who's never played soccer a day in my life, was recruited to play as goalie for the girl's team in the outreach tournament we hosted! I like to think I did a pretty good job! :) Thanks for your support of Habitat - it goes beyond just building houses, but our mission policy helped me build lives in Costa Rica!
